EDUC-360: Secondary Instructional Methods and Strategies

This course introduces the foundations and practices particular to secondary education, including the historical development of middle and high schools and the policies that shape them today. Students examine key educational theorists and research on adolescent neuroscience and psychology, while developing strategies for classroom management, inclusive learning environments, and effective instruction. The course also explores assessment frameworks, proficiency standards, and teacher evaluation criteria. Emphasis is placed on applying research-based instructional practices—including lesson planning, teaching strategies, and assessment—while reflecting on personal pedagogical philosophy and practice. Prerequisites: EDUC 210, EDUC 290. This course is only offered in the fall.
