Conclusion of the mechanical engineering capstone design sequence. Student teams complete a client- or faculty-sponsored design project by refining, analyzing, building, and validating a solution that meets specified needs. Emphasis is placed on application of appropriate engineering standards, experimentation, prototype development, and consideration of realistic constraints such as public health and safety, manufacturability, sustainability, ethics, cost, and societal impact. Professional communication with faculty, practicing engineers, and clients is required through design reviews, written reports, oral presentations, and a final prototype or design package.
