This course introduces the fundamental theories of stress and strain, focusing on the behavior of materials under various loading conditions. Topics include the application of these theories to analyze stress distribution, deformation, and instability in simple structural forms. Students will explore material properties, stress-strain relationships, and how these principles are used to assess and predict the mechanical behavior of materials and structures under different forces. Emphasis is placed on the understanding and generalization of these theories for practical applications in engineering design and analysis. Pre-requisite: ES211 Statics
