This course is an introduction to Geographic Information Science (GIS), which includes tools to integrate, visualize and analyze spatial data to understand relationships and solve real-world problems. Basic concepts, theoretical background, and field-specific practical GIS skills for conservation and management careers as well as GIS history, data acquisition, data quality and ethics, will be covered via lecture and applied software exercises. Students will develop a working knowledge of GPS units as well as create figures and maps and conduct spatial analyses with GIS software including ArcMap, ArGIS Pro, and QGIS. Prerequisite: Successful completion (C- or better) of CBIO 194 and/or Instructor Permission. Fall even years.
