This course is the first in the sequence of two courses designed to introduce students to the rehabilitation science professions and to the professional phase of the physical and occupational therapy curriculum. Students will be introduced to the history of the physical and occupational therapy professions, scope of practice, professional organizations, roles of other health care professionals, and the importance of scientific research and its link to the concept of evidence-based practice. Concepts related to the managed care and the changing healthcare environment will be explored as they relate to the healthcare professional and consumer. Additionally, issues of contemporary practice will be discussed and debated. Fall
